Full Circle with Alumni sisters, Grace & Hannah Crocker

The Doris Crossley Foundation loves to hear news from their graduates and alumni. Recently we received some feedback from two sisters who were funded by the Foundation in their undergraduate endeavours – Grace and Hannah Crocker.

Grace Crocker:

My journey to law began in Grade 7, when we were instructed to put together a project on a chosen career path – and I picked law (someone had once told me that I was good at arguing). Just a few years later, I was studying my BA(Law) degree at Stellenbosch University, with the amazing support of the Doris Crossley Foundation. University was five years of studying, friendship, tough tests and a lot of reading (cases upon cases of jurisprudence). I graduated in 2019 with my BA(Law) degree. In 2021, after two strange years of hybrid-learning, I graduated with my LLB degree. The following year, I kicked things off properly at Bowmans’ Cape Town office, doing my articles and getting exposure in various types of law: competition, general litigation, banking and finance, and employment. I eventually found my home in the Employment and Benefits team, where I’m now a second-year associate, having been admitted as an attorney of the High Court in 2024. I’ve learnt so much over the past few years, but luckily there’s still so much to learn!
Hannah Crocker:
I completed my MBChB in 2021 at Stellenbosch University after an amazing six years supported by the Doris Crossley Foundation. I then moved to Worcester where I completed my two years of internship. Here I made amazing friends and grew tremendously as a doctor. When it came to community service placements, I was sent to the other side of the country, Limpopo. This was definitely not on my cards, and I was terrified but after a year serving the most humble rural community, I can truly say I left an even better person and doctor. Every day was a  challenge but the people and communities embraced me and cared for me like their own.
Now I am back in Cape Town and have just opened my own practice. I love serving my community back home and trying to give back in which ever way I can. From sports medicine, to women’s health, kiddies and mental health, I am definitely fulfilling my life’s purpose and I owe that to the kind Foundations that helped get me here.
