We recently recieved some lovely flowers at the Foundation from Lorraine and Malaika Kalassa and we thought it was a great opportunity to catch up with these two sisters who were DCF and HCF bursary recipients.
Lorraine: “I am currently working at Tarna Klitzner Landscape Architects as a Landscape Architectural student in training on a part-time basis; working three days a week. As you may recall, I really battled with my health in the past two years and so my boss was kind enough to offer me part-time work, just to ease my body into this new routine. It has been two months since I first started, and so far everything has gone well. It has been such a joy to be in an environment that keeps me excited and that is equipping me with skills that I feel were lacking in my Honours programme. I am really enjoying my practical experience in this field and pursuing my Master’s Degree.”
Malaika: “I am writing from sunny, dry Johannesburg where I currently live. After finishing my BCom degree in 2022, I pursued a PGDip in Management at UCT which I completed in December 2023. Towards the end of this qualification, I went through three rounds of interviews and tests for a graduate program with Bacardi South Africa. I’m pleased to announce that I was successful and have been working at Bacardi since February. After some years in the industry, I wish to pursue an MBA at the UCT Graduate School of Business. I trust that this will happen when the time is right.
Thank you so much for our bursary support. The road to studying and finding employment can be particularly difficult for refugees/foreigners but with the help of your Foundation, our dreams have materialised. This is only the beginning for us, and we would like to keep you updated on our respective journeys.”
Thank you for getting in touch with us and for the wonderful flowers received. Well done to both of you and we wish you much success in your continued journey.
Well done Lorraine and Malaika! We are so proud of you both.
