An ongoing conversation among funders in the Higher Education space continues to gain momentum in both Johannesburg and Cape Town, facilitated under the auspices of IPASA (the Independent Philanthropy Association of South Africa).
In August, a meeting held in Cape Town brought together representatives from several foundations. The session was generously hosted by Jamala Safari at the HCI Foundation headquarters and provided an opportunity for participants to share insights into the models they’re using in their bursary and leadership programmes.
Representing the Harry Crossley Foundation at this important discussion were Linda Fredman, Kristin Larsen, and Thuli Mashabane. Their contributions helped enrich the conversation, as funders explored potential areas for collaboration and shared experiences aimed at strengthening impact in the Higher Education sector.
These Cape Town meetings run separately from similar gatherings in Johannesburg, but information and learnings are regularly shared between the two groups to ensure ongoing alignment and mutual support. The discussions continue to be open, honest, and constructive, with a shared commitment to improving funding practices and outcomes for students across South Africa
