On the 22nd April 2023, The Doris Crossley team (Linda Whitfield, Kristin Larsen and Thuli Mashabane) set off to meet with the Doris Crossley Foundation 2023 undergraduate cohort for a fun-filled morning at Acrobranch Stellenbosch.
The idea for the initiative was to bring our cohort of students together for a morning of fun, give them a break from their studies and to connect with one another and the Foundation team. Our undergraduate cohort is made up of students at Stellenbosch University (both Stellenbosch and Tygerberg campus), UCT, UNISA, SEA and LAMTA to name a few.
Once everyone arrived at Joostenbergvlakte, we started the day with introductions and coffees. The weather was not looking promising so everyone made the most of the time in the deli next to the fire place. We then ventured outdoors to do three different team building exercises to break the ice. Everyone was then keen to get harnessed up and into the trees at Acrobranch despite the rain and cold. Once everyone was up in the trees nobody noticed the weather. It was lovely to see how everyone supported the people around them and together got through the challenging obstacles. We were so impressed by everyone for conquering their fears and making their way through the course as best they could.
Once everyone had completed the final long zip line, we headed back to the deli to have a picnic and get warmed up by the fire again.
It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to meet one another and connect and we are positive that new friendships were formed and everyone was able to take a moment to enjoy themselves. We thank all our students for attending and for the joy they brought to the day. We can’t wait for the next gathering and wish our students well in their upcoming exams.
