Our team at the Harry Crossley Foundation, Linda Whitfield, Kristin Larsen and Thuli Mashabane, recently had the privilege of visiting Capricorn Primary School in Vrygrond, situated in the Western Cape. This school is on a dedicated mission to enhance literacy and numeracy skills among young learners in the Vrygrond community, ensuring they have access to a quality education that serves as a foundation for their future.
During our tour of the school, we had the opportunity to meet the exceptional and committed teachers, support staff, NGOs, and some volunteer parents—all united in their commitment to ensuring that every learner at the school receives the best education possible.
We would like to extend our appreciation to the outgoing school principal, Ms. Siddieka Hassen, who assumed her role in 2008. As she retires, she leaves behind a dedicated team that will continue her legacy to ensure learners have access to quality education. She recently won the Kader Asmal Lifetime Achievement Award at the Western Cape Provincial Teaching Awards in September (you can read more about this in a recent News24 article).
We eagerly anticipate witnessing the continued growth and success of Capricorn Primary School and the development of their bright and promising learners.
