In February, the Harry Crossley Foundation attended the Investec Philanthropy Breakfast in partnership with the Independent Philanthropy Association South Africa (IPASA). This event was an excellent opportunity to network with philanthropic organizations that focus on educational development. Investec gave a presentation on Strategic Philanthropy, providing valuable insights into the intricate foreign, domestic, and economic factors affecting the markets and likely to elicit reactions.
A panel discussion featured the Principal of Manenberg Primary School, who shared compelling insights into the challenges faced by the school. He talked about how initiatives supported by Investec philanthropists have helped support their school meal program, ensuring that children receive a meal in school. The redesign of the school staff room has also provided teachers with a much-needed space to relax and regroup. The panel emphasized the importance of philanthropists not only supporting projects but also engaging with the people they support to better understand their context.
This inspiring morning provided valuable insights into how other philanthropies conduct their work to enable impactful change.
