The Harry Crossley Foundation is proud to support Christel House, a school dedicated to serving children from underserved communities. Our focus is on the Grade RR project, which provides essential early education to 120 preschoolers from across Cape Town.
The project aims to bridge the gap between the children’s home languages and English as they embark on their early schooling journey, equipping them with the tools they need to thrive academically. In addition to its academic focus, the project also prioritizes learner wellness and health, ensuring a holistic approach to their development.
Recently, the HCF team met with members of the Christel House team, including Heather van Wyk, Carol Kriel, and Adri Maris, to learn more about the project’s impact and the school’s exciting future plans. During our visit, we had the pleasure of touring the school, exploring the play areas, and visiting three of the Grade RR classrooms. The highlight of the day was being treated to a fun dance performance by the learners. We also had the opportunity to engage with the children as they coloured drawings, worked on puzzles, and participated in numeracy activities. It was a joy to see the enthusiasm and creativity of these young learners firsthand.
