The Harry Crossley Foundation has partnered with the Hands-on Foundation Charitable Trust, an organisation working to transform the educational landscape in South Africa by integrating technical studies into mainstream schools. Through this initiative, learners gain the knowledge and practical skills needed to pursue further studies and careers in technical and engineering fields.
Learners in Grades 10 to 12 take part in specialised subjects alongside their regular curriculum, including Civil Technology, Electronic Technology, and Engineering Graphics and Design (EGD).
As part of this partnership, HCF supported the development of two fully equipped technical and engineering faculties at Langa LEAP School and Crossroads LEAP School. During a recent site visit, the team toured the newly developed facilities at both schools, including workshop spaces and EGD classrooms, and observed how the resources are being used to support hands-on learning.
The HCF team also had the opportunity to meet learners in the programme, who shared how the experience has inspired them to pursue careers in engineering after matric. In addition, the team heard from Saul Berman, founder of the organisation, who spoke about his vision for the initiative and its long-term impact on learners.
We are proud to support this work and look forward to the meaningful difference the programme will continue to make for learners and schools.
