Driving Bold Philanthropy: The IPASA Annual Symposium and 2023 Review of Philanthropy

The Harry Crossley Foundation (HCF) proudly participated in the IPASA Annual Philanthropy Symposium and the Launch of the 2023 Annual Review of Philanthropy, events that HCF sponsors with enthusiasm. These gatherings serve as important catalysts for conversations about philanthropy, providing a space to gather insights and chart the future path for philanthropy.

The Symposium, a significant annual two-day event tailored for grant-makers in Cape Town, serves as a vital platform for discussing and addressing challenging issues that philanthropists are working to tackle in the country. It also explores opportunities to make a positive impact. The event fosters connections among grant-makers, offering a space to meet, engage, share knowledge, and find ways to collaborate. This year’s theme, “Bold Philanthropy: Courageous Conversations to Ignite Action,” underscored the need for bold leadership and innovative philanthropy, emphasizing a shift in mindset and practices to bring about systemic change. The discussions also focused on how funders can collaborate with advocacy groups to create courageous partnerships leading to lasting change.

HCF provided funding towards the production of IPASA’s Annual Review of South African Philanthropy. The fourth edition of this review showcased the work of independent philanthropy in South Africa through case studies, stories, and opinions from a diverse group of philanthropists. This edition delved into both the accomplishments and challenges faced by the country’s leading philanthropic organizations.

HCF recognises the immense value of this event, understanding the importance of philanthropists exchanging expertise, forming connections, and collaborating. The Foundation firmly believes that a united and strategic approach is crucial to address the intricate problems in South Africa, and IPASA provides valuable avenues for collaboration and knowledge-sharing.
